He began by persuading others to do something for nothing as a fundraising coordinator for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). He then persuaded others to get something for nothing, working for the UK Government's Departments of Health and Social Security.

Since then he has gradually lost his hair, if not his sense of humour, working for the last 15 years in the telecommunications industry with the likes of British Telecommunications plc, Maxis Mobile in Malaysia, and Vodafone UK. Throughout, he has managed, developed and delivered profitable new products and services.

He has a first degree in Psychology from Nottingham University in the UK, and a Masters degree in Management from the University of McGill in Montreal, Canada, under the direction of Professor Henry Mintzberg.
